Freeview HD to offer new IPTV channels

According to this article on The Register, Freeview HD channels 110, 111 and 112 in the EPG are to be used for IPTV starting from the end of September. There will be some free content, but it sounds like most of it is going to be subscription and maybe PPV. Let's hope the 8320HD can cope with it - I've no idea if any firmware update (other than maybe new logos in EPG) is needed to enable it.

  1. It looks like MHEG-IC has been mandated since April 2011 on FreeviewHD boxes. from the always accurate Wikipedia ..

"From 1 April 2011, all new Freeview HD receiver products must include MHEG Interaction Channel (MHEG-IC) as part of D-Book 6.2.1.[70] The move allowed the standard MHEG-5 reliant iPlayer application to be offered from 7 April via the red button on all BBC channels to Freeview HD certified devices."

  2. another thought, if they do enable MHEG-IC. I'm guessing they have not yet, does that mean we could get services like 4oD via Channel4's red button?
